UI hangs

Hi,

After installing the Black Edition on rasplex I get a huge issue : every 3 to 10 clicks or so, when navigating through the menus (no matter which), everything hangs for about 20 seconds, or so. The wierd is that even the remote is no more responding (on my tv the red led shows no activity when I press a button) suggesting the CEC controller is no more listening and that the system is in a heavy update/work… ?
And then, everything is working fine again… for 3 to 10 clicks

I switched back to default skin and got the same issue !!! I must have broken something while installing the Black Edition, but what ??? I just dropped the skin folder into /storage/.plxht/addons.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT : I said “3 to 10 clicks”… well it happens to be exactly 7 ! Weird. Just changing the focus from one poster to another and back again… at 7th move… voilà !

Sounds like a corrupt SD card, suggest reflashing and reinstalling the skin.

Regards

If the TV set can’t respond normally to the remote button presses when this error occurs, I’d suspect some hardware issue with the remote itself, rather than any problem with the RasPlex software.

Could it be so simple as low-charge remote batteries…?

Thanks for your suggestions @NedtheNerd and @dlanor.

Remote/battery issue was my first guess… but since it happens EVERY 7 clicks I dismiss that explanation. This is too “constant” to be electrical. Even @Neds idea doesn’t seem to fit, but I will give it a try and flash another SD card… [to be continued]

Even so, if it happens every 7 clicks and affects not only input to RasPlex but also input to your TV set (which transfer RasPlex is not involved in), then I think it has to be due to something in the remote itself.

One thing that could cause the ‘7 clicks’ dependency is an error in the internal button press debouncing method of the remote (whether it’s done by analog hardware or digital firmware), which could be caused by an incorrect operating voltage. That could affect both analog and digital circuitry.

In your place I would still try replacing/recharging the remote’s battery, even if finding it an unlikely cause.
It’s something very easy to do, so even if there’s no change it’s still worthwhile to eliminate that possibility, when it costs so little effort.

@dlanor
I must confess : I am not a believer. But you made your point and I followed your advice : I replaced the remote’s batteries and… tada ! Unbelievable. Here in France we have saying : “Why make simple when it can be complicated ?”
So I am a little bit ashamed but very thankful that you have insisted.

Best regards.
