[UI Suggestion] Add option to reload w/ insecure connection

Right now, the only way to get the option is to wait for it to try to connect to a server that someone else is sharing with me. If I just had my own server listing, it wouldn’t ever give me the option.

See picture:

Manually change the URL to HTTP.

That used to work, when they first introduced HTTPS, but now it automatically goes back to HTTPS.

If you want insecure you need to goto https://app.plex.tv/web/?secure=0 (it’s the URL you’ll see for a nanosecond before it auto switches back to HTTPS, if you try to go to HTTP).

Either way, there needs to be an option on the webpage. Like how there is if someone else’s shared server doesn’t connect via HTTPS… but in a nicer way.

Hmm. You’re right. Let me see if I can get an answer for you.

Question though. Why would you want to connect unsecured?

I’m not really looking for an answer, just making a suggestion for an option in the UI of Plex web.

For whatever reason I can’t connect via https from work. But http works fine.

In that case, you should get that option. Just looking why you would want to have a button to switch to an unsecured connection. There is no point in having it there if there is no use for it.

In the picture I posted I blocked out my server name and my buddies. When a shared server doesn’t connect you get an option to retry via insecure connection (http). But you don’t get that for your own server. So if I didn’t have a shared server there’s no easy way to switch over without using the url I posted above.

I get that, but why would you want to connect to your server using an unsecured connection?

Ideally I’d rather it be secure, but for whatever reason it doesn’t work on my company lan. And sometimes I just want to check something quickly… I don’t actually watch movies at work.

This isn’t a big deal, it’s a suggestion for a function that is already there, just not always present or easy to get to.
