Un-announced Roku Preview 7.34.15 weekend release - Themes Messed Up

Loaded Plex Preview on RokuTV today and it was only loading in “offline” mode until I force restarted my Roku TV.

Once Plex loaded, my Theme is now using dynamic colors as I move between titles. It’s been set at Bubblegum with no dynamic background for years because the dynamic colors slow down the GUI on the TV and are distracting for me.

Additionally, background artwork is gone on detail screens.

On my Roku Ultra I didn’t have a startup problem but the same Theme issue is happening (but on Dark instead of Bubblegum) except the artwork stays in upper right hand corner when I go to details if I go to it from a home row. If I go to details from a library (no ‘preview’ details) then there is no background art just like on the RokuTV.

Both seem to have updated to PlexPreview 7.34 Saturday night but there’s no release notice for 7.34. The last was 7.33 from 27 days ago. There’s usually never releases on Friday or over the weekend so this was an unexpected situation for Sunday movie night.

I tried changing settings for the theme but other than modern\classic changes, it doesn’t seem to make any difference unless I pick “none” in which case it just uses flat black in some areas but continues to use dynamic artwork colors.

I rebooted both devices - including pulling power cables - but no change. Sometimes that helps when they flake out.

I don’t want dynamic background colors every time I change titles and I really like having background art full screen not just in the corner.

I realize I’m using Preview but this seems a little out of bounds even for preview release. Playback seems fine otherwise - just jarring to unexpectedly have the GUI all outta whack.

I checked the Public Plex 7.31 channel and it’s working as expected.

Another item that 7.34 broke is the theme music. I hadn’t noticed that until I tested the 7.31 and the music kicked in during checking that I noticed it hadn’t been kicking in on 7.34.

Really it just looks like someone accidentally published to Preview early with these obvious bugs and a weekend release without notice. It happens. :slight_smile:

The Preview version used to be pretty solid, even as a beta, and it felt like I was helping improve Plex on Roku by using it and reporting issues. Lately though, reporting bugs with logs and screenshots doesn’t get a response even for beta and replicable issues so ‘contributing’ to Plex feels like wasted effort. Particularly compared to how engaged Plex reps used to be about it.

I’ll just revert back to using the standard Public version, no biggie.

Edit: Roku Release topic edited previous release note to include a comment that this release was for a Roku certification requirement. I’m gonna guess that meant an unscheduled push and since it’s beta the consequences of the bugs weren’t as much of a concern as the certification timing. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Which happens… not a great look but it happens.
