Darker background on Preview app

Server Version#: 1.23.5.4862
Player Version#: 6.8.6.7183-3667b5590-PlexPreview

The background on the Roku Plex Preview app has got a lot darker some time in the past few days. It’s very noticeably darker than in the non-preview app, so dark in fact that it’s barely distinguishable from the High Contrast Mode. I don’t like the higher contrast, I thought the previous grey was easier on the eyes. What’s the rationale behind this change? Is it permanent?

In the latest preview release, there are new “None” options in Settings for Home background and Details background, which is a welcome answer to a long-standing request of mine. Before this, the only choices were the blurred colors or dimmed artwork. If you want the previous background, simply choose the “Artwork colors” option.

I’m thrilled that this new option is coming, but I agree that the background when “None” is selected is too dark. I’m hoping that this is just a first step, and there will shortly be a way to choose background colors.

I had to look up how to enable experimental features on the server in order to gain access to those settings, and after doing so found that the “Artwork Colors” option only applies to the main Home screen, not to the individual Library screens, which are still too dark. I guess these are the drawbacks of using preview versions and experimental features. I can’t remember now why I originally switched to the Preview app some years ago, but I’ve switched back in the hope that these annoyances and inconsistencies will be sorted out before making it into the main app.
