Unable to access local plex server when internet isn't available

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 1.25.0.1511

I’m prepping a cottage setup for plex that will not have internet access. I’m testing the setup at home right now. When the internet isn’t available and I start the plex player for mac, it shows the message We are unable to connect to plex.tv at this time. Please try again later. and that’s as far as it gets.

I do have my local subnet listed in the List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth section.

I can connect to the plex server via a browser over the local IP and play a video. I can also connect to the server via the iOS player on an iPhone. It’s just the plex player on mac that is unable to.

Any suggestions?

There’s already a super extensive post (+ thread) in the tips & tricks section covering the do’s and don’ts of using Plex without internet (and what will/won’t work if your setup is truly offline).

This will not work for all clients!

Thanks. I saw that thread and was going to reply in there, but it’s locked.

Can it be fixed so that the official Plex Player app for Mac can also work?

It seems odd that the web app and the iOS app will work but not the desktop app.
