Unable to access server after VPN use

New to the forums here so I’ve reached the point of desperation. However, I think I’ve learned what caused the problem - I just don’t know how to fix it. I’ve searched and read through all of the articles I could find and I’m unable to find a solution or think it through any further on my own. HELP?!?!?

I had my VPN turned on the other day. I was also working on renaming some of my video files so that Plex could accurately scrape the associated data. Once I was finished following the instructions to the letter, none of the correct metadata was showing up in my player. Without even thinking twice I then logged into the server. Once I logged into the server I could no longer see the settings. Yep - the old “server unavailable”. My player still worked properly but it was bugging me that the metadata wasn’t showing up properly. I could still access the server and the player, all of my media was there.

One search led to another and I learned that being connected to the VPN is most likely what caused the problem. I tried the old log out/log in. Then I tried to do the registry hack but none of the keys I needed to access were there. The server lives on my NAS so it makes sense. Then I tried the uninstall/reinstall for both the server and the player. Now I can’t access anything.

I can’t even access my NAS via Chrome, which is where it’s been since I set it up. I can open it up in Firefox just fine at the proper IP on my LAN. However, it shows TWO servers with the same name. One is available, one is not. My understanding is that the IP for my server was changed when I logged in while my VPN was on and that messed up the connection between my PMS and the Plex server…so now I can’t see any of my data. The 2 users I’m sharing my library with are still listed in my account, but I have no media library whatsoever.

Can someone please tell me if I’m even close to being on track in my troubleshooting? And how in the heck do I fix this mess I created for myself? If I have to do a complete re-build of my PMS then I guess it is what it is. Even so - how do I delete the “old” server instance from my account?

I’m not sure which logs I might need or where to find them. I’m quite tech savvy so I’m confident I can fix this. I just need some direction. I’m happy to supply whatever is necessary but I might need someone to walk me through it the first time.
