Unable to add new media

Since upgrading to version 1.16.0.1226 I am unable to add new media. It appears that the agents have stopped working?! Now when scanning for new media the agent starts and then stops instantly. I have also tried using the shell command line scripts and get the same result.

Running PMS on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

I have rolled back to a 1.15 release but get the same issue.

I can confirm the films are named correctly and the metadata within them is correct.

Please help.

Have you looked at your Plex Media Scanner.log to see if there are any errors or info on why a file is ignored after a scan attempt?

Hi @BigWheel,
Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

There is absolutely nothing in the logs to indicate why - the current log file contains the below; the time stamp ends at 17:13 but I have requested scans multiple times up until now (20:57 GMT).

Would you please make certain DEBUG logging is enabled, VERBOSE is disabled, and start another scan? After it completes, please download the full log set.

Debug logging on doesn’t consume any more space than with it off. It does let us see more within that limited 26 MB window of space.

Hi @ChuckPa,

Done - I can see the file referenced in the scaner log now but it’s still not been added?

Jun 27, 2019 21:28:25.570 [0x7f81b1824280] DEBUG - Adding file for scanner: “/home/“user”/Media/Films/“title”.mp4”

I know the metadata is good as I have tested the file on another PMS and it’s scanned and added without issue?

Remember, MP4 files carry Name/ Title info in their internal Metadata.

What does “MediaInfo” show you about that metadata?
If it’s incorrect or otherwise obscure, the scanner will not be be able to match it.

In those cases:

  1. Move the media out.
  2. Scan files - Empty Trash - Clean bundles
  3. Fix the metadata (or just remove it)
  4. Verify the naming is correct.
  5. Move back into the monitored area.

EDIT

There was a timing issue. I replied before getting your previous.

Check the permissions. and do the dance. It’s going to be simple.
