Movie not being added

So I kept the title short. I will add more details, the movie I want to add is a documentary named The Biggest Little Farm (2018)
It has the correct title in the folder.
The file has the same permissions as newer files that have been added successfully.
I am out of ideas. If someone wants to look through my logs that would be awesome. I have looked myself but ten minutes ago one of the log files stated that the directory was skipped that’s when I tried possible solution 2. Now the plex media server log file say something about 7 documentaries???

Things I have tried:

1 Plex Dance, multiple times and slight variations.
2 Removing the file out of the library folder, empty trash, cleaning bundles and renaming the file and putting it back in the library folder.
3 Updated to newer version (1.16.5.1554) But problem was not resolved by this.
The scanning icon appears very briefly but nothing gets added. Also number of items does not change during possible solution 2.

Server version, Player Version and logs

Plex Media Scanner Log

<Aug 26, 2019 17:35:52.631 [0x7f97c05ba280] DEBUG - Adding file for scanner: "/home/redacted/Docu/The biggest little farm (2018) dvdrip.mkv>

** Plex Media Server log**
Plex Media Server (detail).log (39.8 KB)
Plex Media Server (full).log (2.5 MB)
Thanks for reading.

Please disable ‘verbose’ logging. It makes debugging harder and sometimes impossible.
(Stop and restart the server after changing the setting!)

The most interesting ‘Scanner’ log is missing.

Are you saying that

  • the movie is not showing up at all
  • it does show up, but without metadata
  • it does show up, but with totally wrong metadata

?

The movie does not show up at all.
Restarted the server the scanner log is attached. Plex Media Scanner (full).log (243.6 KB)

I initially did not add it completely because the only occurrence of the file in the log was one line, see original post. If you need any other logs, let me know.

Please stop and restart the server again.
Then perform the Plex Dance with the movie.

Does the library use TheMoviedatabase agent as its default? It should.

Have you checked the access permissions of the file? plex/plex needs to have at least ‘read’ permission.

Are you ripping/downloading directly into this folder?

I’ll need both Plex Media Server.log and Plex Media Scanner.log after the “dance”.

Please stop and restart the server again.

plexmediaserver.service restarted again with systemctl

Plex dance performed

Does the library use TheMoviedatabase agent as its default? It should.

Yes

Have you checked the access permissions of the file? plex/plex needs to have at least ‘read’ permission.

Yes I checked, Plex has read permissions. Also other files in the folder are being added to the library without any problems.

Are you ripping/downloading directly into this folder?

This file in particular was uploaded through an ftp client as some of the other files that where added to the library without problems. (I could test this again) Most of the files are downloaded directly into it, so far without any problems, just tested that. Permissions of files that are uploaded through ftp client or directly downloaded into the folder are the same.

Please find the Plex Media Server.log and Plex Media Scanner.log attached.

Plex Media Scanner (post plex dance - full).log (243.8 KB) Plex Media Server (post plex dance - full).log (1.6 MB)

Still no change however, the file is not showing up in the Plex Player.

These logs are still ‘verbose’.

Can you switch your library view to show the items sorted by ‘Date added’?
Which is the last item?
Do you know it, If you don’t know it, inspect its Plex media info to see to which file it is connected.

The library is on “Date added” by default in my Plex player.
I suspected this as well, all entries with multiple versions make sense. I went over the library nothing is out of place or has weird conver art or metadata.

Then I’m out of ideas and it’s time to ask a Linux expert.
Maybe @ChuckPa has additional ideas?

I will upload the file in question again, as some last easy ditch resort

Thank you very much for the help already

Well, maybe one: are you sure the file is a valid video file?
grapsing for straws here

I was thinking the same and started downloading the file already.

Also: Straws helped me out loads of times before, this might be one instance again.

Downloaded the file, it is playing normally, and I am able to scrub through the whole video, no unexpected endings. :frowning:

Alright I re-uploaded the original file, it has finally been added to the library and matched without a problem. Thank you very much for the help. @OttoKerner

Phew!

Yes, I know! Thank you for the support!
