Will get a “Media Is Unavailable” message on the Chromecast. Plays just fine on the device, all previous version of Plex work fine. Only this new build from August 7th. I would presume it’s being looked at, but reverting back one version of Plex fixes the issue. Using any other Plex client in the house also fixes the issue.
If you start a stream with a pre-6.4.0.1403 version of Plex, and then use the 6.4.0.1408 device to latch on to the stream, you can then control and stream new media with no issue. The problem is only initiating the stream originally from the 6.4.0.1403 device.
I have the same issue with the 6.4.0 betas. I don’t have to actually press play to get the “unable to cast”/“This media is currently unavailable.” error message. It happens as soon as I navigate to an item and the app tries to cast meta data to the Chromecast.
It’s also on 6.4.0.1949. I’m cool with knowing this is a beta (which I’ve unregistered a few months back but still get betas) but why hasn’t someone from Plex acknowledged this? Isn’t that the point of betas? To be honest, this is a huge break. Not like a tiny big where a character is off centered or something. Chromecast simply does not work.
I can’t get away from beta, and I can’t watch a show on my 5 Chromecasts, and the 12 people I’ve checked with whom are on beta can’t either. This is a big deal. I have no solution.
I wouldn’t be upset if someone would simply respond. The whole purpose of betas and all…
I’ve downloaded and installed 6.3.4 (and disabled auto update) as a workaround until a 6.4 beta with working CC-support is released. It’s all part of living on the cutting edge!

Strange, I see only released versions in that thread. If I click on the relevant apk-link (arm64v8a in my case) in a post I download that version.
I can only do that if I sign in as a different user. Which I have now done, and regressed to 6.3.X. And now I have to babysit the Syncing of a music playlist since it stops after about 10 songs. Real frustrating.
Hey @“jens.bergqvist” @“Kyle Verry”, sorry you are experiencing problems with latest betas.
In order to investigate the issue, could you upload some logs here? Thanks!
This seems to be related to the “Secure connections” setting. If I allow unsecured connections I can cast to Chromecast just fine from 6.4.0.
With the option set to “required” I get a bunch of
“DEBUG - Request: [address:port] rejected because secure connections are required”
lines in the logs as soon as I connect the android app to the Chromecast.
Something must have changed between 6.3.0 and 6.4.0 that makes the server reject secured casting requests.
Some additional info:
I’m running the latest Android O (8.0) beta on my phone and Android 7.1.1 on my tablet. The Plex app behaves the same on both devices.
My current Plex Media Server version is 1.8.1.4139 running on Ubuntu 17.04.
I can confirm that I also have success if I set the server to PREFERRED or NEVER for secure connections. If REQUIRED is selected, the Media Not Available problem returns.
This is now on stable 6.4.0, as I had reverted to stable to escape this problem.
Thank you for the additional information! We are investigating the issue, but for now the best workaround is to set secure connections to “Preferred” instead of “Required”. Sorry for the inconvenience.
