Unable to create / add Photo Library "Your changes could not be saved"

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: not applicable

Hi there,

I bought a new NAS (DS420+) to replace our dying DS415+ and migrated Plex.
Everything is all up and running well, given I had to use the new DSM 7 off the bat.

One thing I am now unable to do is add a photo library. I didn’t have any photo libraries to begin with so I am unable to determine if this is a new issue with DSM 7 or not.

I am not a Synology PhotoStation user.
All other non-photo libraries are working fine.
I am also able to add new non-photos libraries without issue.

Please advise - happy to provide more logging/troubleshooting as required.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t remember DSM ever creating “Photos and Videos” when I installed it initially on my development system so will ask if that’s a shared folder you created ??

If Synology created it then don’t use it. It seems everything Synology creates in advance carries some weird internal DSM dependencies & controls which make using it with PMS a problem.

The best solution for all these cases is to create a new shared folder and name it to your liking. Maybe “Photos” ?

As you do, don’t forget to give System Internal User “PlexMediaServer” permission to read it.

After you’ve created it, move your photos into it using FileStation.

Now you can add the “Photos” shared folder to PMS.

Correct, I had created this manually from the Synology Control Panel

Understood, this is most definitely the case for my existing and any newly created libraries/folders.

I created new Synology Shared Folders for further testing as follows:

  • Photos
  • Test

Granted these Shared Folders “FULL CONTROL” to the Synology System Internal user, “PlexMediaServer”

If I attempt to add these libraries to Plex as a ‘PHOTO’ library type, I experience said error:

But I am however able to add these same Folders can to any other type of library fine ie Movies:

I’m fairly confident the issue is isolated to me not being able to add a ‘photo library type’ in Plex rather it being a Synology Folder Permission issue.

Please let me know what other logging or suggestions I can try?

Thanks.

Thank you… That’s VERY helpful.

Please download the logs ZIP file and attach it.

When “changes cannot be saved” – the typical problem is DNS / internet connectivity. Your logs will tell us.

When you create the library section, did it leave the language field blank?

PMS is complaining it’s not valid.

Strange - no, the field is set to English (default).

For added testing, I tried toggling it to another language, say Deutsch but same error.
Then toggled it back to English but same error:

Hi there, just checking in if there was any progress or updates?
Thanks

Hi there,

I’ve just applied update 1.27.0.5897 and the issue appears to no longer be the case. I am now able to successfully add Photo libraries.

I am still having this issue, but with Windows.
