I bought a new NAS (DS420+) to replace our dying DS415+ and migrated Plex.
Everything is all up and running well, given I had to use the new DSM 7 off the bat.
One thing I am now unable to do is add a photo library. I didn’t have any photo libraries to begin with so I am unable to determine if this is a new issue with DSM 7 or not.
I am not a Synology PhotoStation user.
All other non-photo libraries are working fine.
I am also able to add new non-photos libraries without issue.
Please advise - happy to provide more logging/troubleshooting as required.
I don’t remember DSM ever creating “Photos and Videos” when I installed it initially on my development system so will ask if that’s a shared folder you created ??
If Synology created it then don’t use it. It seems everything Synology creates in advance carries some weird internal DSM dependencies & controls which make using it with PMS a problem.
The best solution for all these cases is to create a new shared folder and name it to your liking. Maybe “Photos” ?
As you do, don’t forget to give System Internal User “PlexMediaServer” permission to read it.
After you’ve created it, move your photos into it using FileStation.
Now you can add the “Photos” shared folder to PMS.
I’m fairly confident the issue is isolated to me not being able to add a ‘photo library type’ in Plex rather it being a Synology Folder Permission issue.
Please let me know what other logging or suggestions I can try?
