I own a Synology DS1621+ NAS (DSM 7.x) and at the time of this post, my NAS has about 99% free space. I recently removed my SHR2 volume and replaced it with a new SHR1 volume. I’ve installed the latest installer for a Synology Intel x64 CPU. Since then, the issues I’m observing for initial setup of the Plex media server (1.31.1.6716-ca0c45ff8 - v 1.31.0.6654) shortly after installation of the server are:
When I try to add a library, I get the “Your changes could not be saved” error.
I have done the following to see if any positive change is achieved:
I ensured that the System Internal User profile had Read/Write access to my Plex share folder. I also ensured all subfolders in the share folder had the same permissions for that profile.
There was no positive change whatsoever. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since DSM 7, we don’t actually have any control over the permissions assigned to the “PlexMediaServer” shared folder more than telling DSM we need “RW” permission.
DSM controls the rest.
I am concerned about which “Plex” share you’re discussing.
If discussing the old “Plex” share – that’s for you and perfectly OK to use as you deem appropriate.
If discussing the “PlexMediaServer” shared folder (because you’re putting media in there) —
– I’m going to challenge you
Did you put media in the PlexMediaServer shared folder?
I’ve been using Plex for about 10 years. My share folder on my NAS did in fact have media in the shared folder.
The Plex share folder was simply a share folder I created via the File Manager on my Synology NAS. I then ensured that this folder had the appropriate read/write permissions for the PlexMediaServer profile.
I put a folder of media into that share folder and then tried to add them as a library when I initially ran Plex right after installing it. Trying to add a library at this point did not allow me to save my changes.
The moment I did blackngold75’s step 2, my problem was resolved.
The thing that threw me for a loop is I never had this problem with previous instances of Plex that I manually installed running on my Synology NAS.
