Unable to display long playlists, Recently Added, or Artists in Android Auto

Duh, thanks. I hadn’t installed an apk manually since in a while, and the last time was on a rooted phone.

7.10.0.8875 doesn’t work any better for me for viewing the “recently added” or “artists” categories, still stuck on the spinning circle.

And it also fails to display my sync’ed content while in offline browsing mode, so I’m going to try an older version.

Update : still no cookie with 7.8.0.8095, neither listing artists with Android Auto or actually accessing my offline content while offline.

About long lists not loading at all, I might be wrong but from a quick investigation it doesn’t seem caused by any recent update. In fact, and again I might be wrong, what I’ve found is that the Android Auto integration just fail to display large lists (the data requested is provided by the app, but Android Auto fails displaying it), and apparently there isn’t a proper way to fix it (other apps have the same problem). Might I ask how long are the lists that are not loading?
Thanks in advance

Not that large : in my case, there are 522 different artists.
And of course, it makes sense that the issue would come from Android Auto, since the Plex app itself has no issue listing all artists :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately, that’s enough for the Android Auto app to fail displaying the list.

My stats:

  • 458 artists
  • 858 albums
  • Two smart playlists that wouldn’t display: 846 and 2516 tracks

Still working for me with version 7.10.0.8875 of Plex app and Android Auto v. 4.1.590944.

Interesting. I’m using the same versions, so maybe there’s a 500 items limit.

My album count and smart playlists are both over 500 in count, yet I can display and play them all after downgrading app version. Wonder what will happen when I hit 500 artists

I have well over 500 artists and version 7.10.0.8875 displays recently added and artists fine without any issues but once I upgrade to the latest version of release, I get the spinning wheel

Strange. What is your Android Auto version, and what Android are you running?
I’m still running 6.x (damn Xiaomi Miui), and I can access the recently added just fine, but the 500+ artists list won’t ever display.

I’ve also tried on 2 friends’ libraries (resp. 150 and 300 artists), and had no issues displaying them.

It looks like the workaround for me will be to trim down my library.

I’m running Android auto version 4.1.590944-release. My Android version is 9.0 pie running on a OnePlus 6.

Thanks. We’re on the same AA version, but it’s possible the Android version plays a role here, for instance through calling an Android-provided library function whose behaviour changed.

Wait a moment … I also have other apps available on AA including one that works with Plex libraries and makes the “Albums” folder available (unlike Plex ). I don’t see any limit all 700+ albums are listed in alphabetical order.
All at the latest version available.

Could you please provide the app’s name?

Yatse :sunglasses:
the only issue encountered with this app is that in AA does not load all the thumbnails but otherwise work very well

Ah, it requires the paid version to connect to a plex server.
Do you also have the issue where you can’t see all artists in the plex + AA situation?

No, but I only have 262 artists
My issues with AA are listed in this video

Oh well the app is not free but deserves to have it

Well, tried splitting my library in 2, didn’t work any better.
Giving up on using Plex + Android Auto, I’ve uploaded my library to Google Play Music, voice command works like a charm.

@jesusmc … Are you unable to reproduce this issue on your end?

As I mentioned above, I did a quick investigation and managed to reproduce the issue (large lists not loading). Unfortunately, from what I could see the app was correctly returning requested data but Android Auto was not able to display them so I think there is some sort of problem in Android Auto side when displaying such large lists (I’ve seen similar reports across developer community). If you’re not referring to that issue, more then happy what’s yours and investigate it

@jesusmc with the same Android Auto and same Plex library, if I uninstall the latest Plex beta and install a version lower as mentioned above, the library loads fine and displays the same results. Wouldn’t that mean something changed between the version that works and the later versions that don’t?
