Recently got a vehicle with Android Auto. When trying to use Plex thru AA…I only see menu items for Playlists…Recently Added Playlist, Recently Added and Tidal. I don’t have any Music Playlists on my server…so really only option I currently have is whatever is in the Recently Added.
Should I not be able to browse the library manually…by Artist, etc.
Works fine on the phone…just not via Android Auto.
Android Auto is designed to keep your eyes on the road. Providing all those options is the exact opposite of the intended goal. You need to setup playlists when you’re not on the road, and play them before you start moving in your vehicle.
These are the options that Neutron audio makes available for AA … do you think Google doesn’t know?
therefore it is not “Providing all those options is the exact opposite of the intended goal” but what the app in agreement with Google makes available to users
That is what I thought… But if I use my phone and Plex in my fathers Buick which has AA…I get several more menu options…including browsing my Artist, etc
Yeah…which is why I was surprised when I used in my Jeep to only see the limited options…FYI my Jeep is a 2020 Gladiator with UConnect 8.4 infotainment. No clue what his Buick is.
I’m running on latest Plex server&lient and AA client. VW Discovery Media (MIB2) head unit.
I doubt it’s HU dependent, as I am having the same issue when running AA app on snartfone disconnected from the car and on emulator.
I paid a lot of money for a new head unit, in part because it would have Android Auto and Plex integration. “How great to be able to finally take my music on the road in a convenient way,” I thought.
Yeah, right.
I had one, maybe two months where Plex was usable on AA (though with some bugs) before they started screwing around with it. First I thought it was just a bug, now I’m starting to think that they’re intentionally killing off AA support.
The new Yatse beta solves this problem by adding an intermediate menu. You select the first letter of the alphabet and then see the options from there.
Same issue here - 2019 Silverado with factory infotainment system, fully up-to-date, Android 10 on my Galaxy S9 and latest update of Plex installed.
Order of options is backwards it seems now also. Playlists (synced-to-device) are now at the bottom of the list and my server and other servers (online) are first in the list. Offline storage would be the preferred first option so as to not rely on 4G connection.
First few months with plex on AA were fine, but then things seemed to have changed for the worst all over. can’t tell you how many times i have to reboot my phone just to get it to work slightly.
