This issue has been going since the release after 7.10… so how long is that now? If by rolling back to that version of Plex while AA remains current fixes the issue, does that not indicate that Plex is the issue? I just love Plex and enjoy hitting shuffle on my huge playlist.
It’s the uncertain surprise of the next track that I love. I’m sure many do the same as me, but in the car we’re totally stuffed!
Just purchased Plex Pass. I have the same problems discussed in this thread and now regretting the Pass purchase since this use-case was a huge motivator to pay into Plex licensing.
Since the older Plex app still works because it uses different Google libraries that still function, then why have the Plex devs not reverted to using those older libraries (at least for generating lists through Android Auto) until a more permanent solution is found?
There is no technical reason for not resolving this issue by now considering how long this support thread has gone. Revert to using the older Google library if you can’t fix the problem with the libraries you switched to.
It’s unacceptable that I need to use a different (likely paid) app like Yatse to use my Plex library properly via Android Auto. We’re coming up on 2020 in a few weeks.
Plex, please resolve this issue even if it’s through a checkbox and additional download that results in a larger Plex app package on my device due to including the older libraries that still work today.
Thanks.
Android Auto got a little love in the last update…
*Android Auto: improve playback over voice search"
they are very skilled in fixing issues that nobody reports
Giving them credit where due, voice search in Android Auto actually is considerably more reliable in this release. Still, the enormous unfixed bugs in the implementation still do make it frustrating, at best, to use it.
It would be great to have this fixed. The Auto app is rather hobbled in its current state IMO.
Yes great but the next step is to restore the resume playback function that has been deliberately removed for a year now …
However, there will still be fun here because the folder “Artist” in AA has disappeared with the last beta… ![]()
Playlist with 5+ hours of music / 72 tracks has displayed fine in AA since I’ve created it a few months ago. I don’t do too many play lists and that’s the longest one that I have… This is a long thread, but I didn’t see any solid numbers posted (though I didn’t read every message with a fine tooth comb)…
Resume playback as mentioned by @ussalin has been working very consistently for me the last 2+ months…
I noticed the missing Artist this morning also - very annoying as that’s my go to 99.999% of the time…
Sorry maybe I didn’t translate well …
are you saying that resume playback works well for you?
Correct. It’s not 100% (Spotify and Pandora work better), but it works acceptably well… So if I unplug, and then plug back in, playback (generally) resumes.
Mine has been working too, as of a few versions ago. Plex stays open on the phone and once connected will resume.
I have a phone always connected in the car
The notification of Plex is present but on AA the track is not visible.
Direct tests on the phone give the same result
Now…
frankly i don’t know where i’m wrong
everything is at the latest version available (Plex the latest beta)
Here what happens with Plex
And here with another similar app …
Thanks for watching
Maybe a nice work around would be to add a shuffle playlist option at a level higher so the app doesn’t have to pull and display all of the tracks in a large playlist? That would also work in other large areas that may not really need to be displayed in android auto.
There’s been lots of releases including lots of improvements to Android Auto since this problem occurred. I’m missing out because the post-7.10 builds can’t load long playlists. The last post gave me an idea though…
Is there a way to play a playlist by voice on Plex with Android Auto? I tried a few things this morning, but the search always found a single song that sorta matched what I was asking for. Does anyone know a trick to loading/playing a playlist by voice request? It seems like if I could get that to work, the bug about loading playlists just wouldn’t matter anymore to me.
In 2020, this is still an issue in 7.27.15018.
I found this thread trying to look for solutions and there still is none. I only have 90 total playlists, and it cuts off about half way through. When I scroll to the end of the list on AA, I get a message to use voice command which doesn’t work for me.
Plex devs should implement some kind of infinite scrolling function, which in this case would just replace the entire list based on the scroll length to display the next page of items, or back up to a previous page. If we can’t have it all at once, provide it in chunks based in scroll position like most other web apps already do for long lists of data.
I have tried all the new versions every time they are released, and I’ve read all the changelogs since 7.10 when the playlist thing worked. I never had any luck until yesterday. I upgraded to 7.27.0.15018 and gave it a shot.
I don’t know that the bug is “fixed” exactly, but it no longer matters to me. I only have a few playlists, so I have no trouble bringing up the list of playlists. When I click a playlist, it automatically just starts playing that list and takes me back to the list of playlists. That means, it skips the step where it shows you the list of songs in the playlist and waits for you to click a song to start it. That’s great, because that was an extra/unnecessary click anyway.
The point is that now, when I select a playlist (something I never had trouble with), it starts playing right away. I can click the yellow circle button afterward and go straight to the player interface, switch to shuffle play, etc.
I don’t know if everyone’s issues with long lists are solved by this, but mine definitely are. Thanks!

Thank the Plex GODS! Yes! I just tested and it’s working too for me.
- Recently added works (Shows albums, click on one it starts to play)
- Recently played works (Shows artist, click shows albums, click, starts to play)
- Playlists, all working!!!
This also happens to me. I don’t mind it either, and maybe it was part of the fix, but either way, it’s fine. It’s working!
I gave up on this ever being fixed a long time ago. But expected to see something in a changelog about the fix. I wonder what changed.
Has anyone noticed that the “Artist” folder is gone?
Is this the answer to those who asked for the “Albums” folder?
Same experience here, @bbro_spo. Pleased with fix. Finally!
