When i was using the snap package plex server, all my files where found with ease. However i recently purchased a Digital tuner, which is not recognised by the snap version. So i downloaded the official Linux Ubuntu version from the plex site. Now my tuner is recognised but i have no ability to find my files when adding media. I have tried numerous times put the drop down window on the add files menus always begins with the Plex/mediaserver/library and will not accept /media/john/spare/tv and if it does, then it will not scan the drive at all.
please, please help.
Seems like you’re having a permission issue where the system account used by the Plex Media Server cannot access those files / library folders.
So how come o have no issues when using the snap version of Plex? It only happens with the Version I download from the Plex site.
I have already tied to change the permissions as root user, but it made no difference.
Where’s your media mounted?
Is it in /media
via the automounter ?
If it’s in /media, under your username, then when snap runs, which is also under your username the permissions align.
Start mixing it up without understanding how permissions work and where the restrictions are causes failure.
May I suggest ?
Thank you for your help. I’m running Linux mint on a partition 2011 iMac (i5 2.4Ghz, 16GB Ram).
It talks about using Plex on a Nas server. I take it that the permissions work the same regardless of what device has mounted drives running Plex?
Yes, pretty much on all Linux hosted platforms.
All sorted, managed to find an easy fix. Used Disk utility on mint and edit the mount points of the disks from there.
Thanks for you help.
