Unable to play 4k video on Apple TV 4k

Recently upgraded my router with a wireless mesh system. After the upgrade I get 300mbps up and 325 down speed, but apple TV will not play 4k videos that I have in my Library. This was working fine with my old router that was a lot slower than what I have now.

I have hardware transcoding enabled, and I’m hosting my library on a qnap NAS that is working fine, because I can access 4k content from my computer, and also from a firestick, but not from apple TV.

I have speed test app in apple TV, and shows over 250mbps connection on the wireless connection to apple TV 4k.
Any ideas what the problem is?

Are you running the store version on the Apple TV or a beta version?
Is it definitely only happening with 4K media or with all files?
Also when you say you can’t play anything what exact behaviour do you see? Is it by any chance trying to play and then going to the post play screen as if it actually played?

I had the same issue when I recently changed routers but it only happens in the latest betas with the experimental player so if you are running the store version it possibly isn’t the same issue.

If it happens with all media AND you are running a beta version it may be worth following this thread

Both @ckdxxx and myself start reporting the issues and then more recently others report the same thing.

In the very latest posts @ckdxxx comes up with a probable cause and we are just waiting for the developer to read and confirm. It’s something that has happened in the past as @SE56 links to.
