Unable to play AAC 5.1 content - Apple Devices

Hello -

I recently started downloading content that is presented with 5 audio channels. Plex is identifying the content as English (AAC 5.1). When I attempt to play the content from my local plex server to either a Windows 10 computer or my Apple TV 4K, the content is unable to play. If either buffers indefinitely, or comes up with the message that there was an error in playback.

This is happening on 2 series that I have downloaded on every episode. The content plays properly thru VLC Player outside of Plex, so I am unsure how to allow it to play within Plex.

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Please post the first ~20 lines from the Plex XML info of an affected video.

I found something interesting when I followed to procedure to get the XML info. I was unable to expose the XML info in Firefox, but was able to see it in Chrome. I can also play the content in Chrome and in Firefox, although it buffers for a long period of time prior to playback. I waited longer on the buffering in the Windows Store Plex App, and the episodes to finally start after about a minute of buffering with no sound. But I am still unable to stream the episodes from the Apple TV’s Plex App. I pasted the XML below, but it isn’t showing up in the preview or the post. Let me know if you can’t see it.

Update - I can play all the episodes on a FireTV 4K stick that got delivered thanks to Prime Day. And it plays smoothly and perfect sound. The FireTV is Wifi and the AppleTV is plugged into the same switch as the Plex Server. The Windows 10 computer is wired, but goes thru a 2nd switch.

So any thought that its the media or the server not capable has totally left me now.

Are you talking about the app which at one time was actually in the Windows app store?
This one has been deprecated for years now. You should stop using it.

There are 2 alternatives for Windows computers available.

Thanks, for most media the deprecated app work fine, but I have installed the new desktop app and that seems to be working with the media in question as well. But I am more concerned about it not working on the Apple TV. That hasn’t been deprecated as far as I know, has it?

The media in question doesn’t work on Apple TV or the iOS app either. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I cannot test and verify for “fruity” hardware. :slight_smile:
But I think it has already been reported as an issue on these platforms.

Thanks Otto, I appreciate the input. I’ll keep an eye on the fruit updates for Plex and stick with my new windows desktop app and Firestick.
