On a Mac Mini, I tried playing some videos with AAC5.1 but I had no success media player. I get music and background sounds but no dialog. I tried making many changes as per threads on this forum but no luck. I then tried Plex server and it worked fine. Go figure - a poor advertisement for plex player in my opinion.
Anyone else have this issue or found a solution for AAC5.1 sound using Plex Player?
Same issue with the Fire TV - ACC 5.1 is not supported on the hardware, only AC3. There are a few bit of software you can use to recode just the audio track and all of them made pretty much a mess of the original file!
I’m slowly recoding all our stuff in handbrake with the following:
AAC Dolby Pro Logic II downmix channel for use of stereo devices (SD / HD) - should play on just about any device
AC3 5.1 Dolby Digital for use with older AMPs (SD / HD) - supported by most manufactures
DTS HD for use with new amps (HD only) - limited support, for future if it ever becomes mainstream
Wait… my server is on a 2012 mac mini and so is my plex player (the SAME box)! Server plays the aac5.1 and plex player doesn’t - so ummm ■■■■ software comes to mind…
Well, I have a similar problem AAC not playing on my newly downloaded Player, whether it is 2.0 or 5.1. It starts to play, about 3 seconds then stops. But with my old Home Theater client it plays just fine. Both server and clients on same mac mini. I did some experimenting with Handbrake by adding a re-encoded track to AC3 and that played fine if I switched tracks. If I replaced the audio AAC with AC3 ( wrote over ), the audio failed as well in Player but worked flawlessly in HT. Glad I still have my copy of HT.
