Unable to play some tracks with Sonos

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930
Player Version#:
For some tracks in my library, I get the following messages when trying to play them using the SONOS app:
unable to play - the connection to Plex was lost
And other tracks would play just fine.

While trying to figure out what was going wrong, I noticed that, for each track not playing, I can see the following WARN message in the plex server log (Plex Media Server.log):
WARN - [Transcode] Streaming Resource: Bandwidth exceeded: 2147483647 kbps > 720 kbps

Here, 720 kbps is the upper limit I have configured in Plex. And the other value is just insane for a music file.

Example of a file for which I get this message:
$ file 01\ Ill\ Ray\ (The\ King).m4a
01 Ill Ray (The King).m4a: ISO Media, Apple iTunes ALAC/AAC-LC (.M4A) Audio

I assume there is something wrong with Transcode, who’s incorrectly computing the bandwidth requirement to play the music. And I guess this needs to be reviewed/corrected by the plex support team. But I have no clue how I can report this issue to the plex team.

I have exactely the same issue. It seems to occur with FLAC files and especially when replacing an existing MP3 with a FLAC version in the Plex library.

Hi,

In the meantime, I have found the details how to report an issue to plex. I will do that this w-e.

And I also did some more investigations and found a work around: In the remote access settings, putting “internet upload speed” to 0 (which means no limit) and “limit remote stream bitrate” to original allows to avoid the issue; of course, there’s no limitation on upload anymore (which can be another issue for some of us).
But that confirms the issue is indeed with incorrect bandwidth req info used by plex

Awesome, thank you! Putting the “internet upload speed” to 0 solves the problem in Sonos! I also upgraded to Plex Beta 1.24.1.4931 before, but this did not solve the issue in Sonos. Thanks again!

Hey fellows, thanks for the tip, defining an internet upload speed to zero also fixed my playback issue from Sonos app with Plex (ver. 1.24.4.5081), you rock @Benoit1 :hugs:
