Unable to progress through setup (MacOS Mojave 10.14.5)

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6
Player Version#:

In an attempt to fix the missing navigation bar, I removed the server installation with the intent of doing a fresh install. I now cannot get past the setup where it asks for the name; the next button just spins.

I’ve purged the install as described in the docs (several times) but still get the same. Tried Safari and Chrome but nothing seems to be working.

Please fill me in on the steps you made to uninstall

Initial attempts as per the official instructions:

  • Quit Plex
  • Remove library files (~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
    ~/Library/Caches/PlexMediaServer/
    ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/)
  • Terminal: defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver
  • Delete the app
  • Restart Mac, etc.
    *Remove registered devices

Most recent: all of the above and then remove anything that vaguely mentions Plex in the name.

Great, what was the last version of plex that worked for you?

That I’m not sure of. I think I had a previous version that I reinstated but still had the same issue, so downloaded the latest.

So your stuck…

Here is the remedy I believe. Do the uninstall again and install this version.

It looked hopeful with a message saying ‘Please wait while Plex starts’ but then went to the setup stage and I have the same issue.

@SE56 Thinking back, the other issue leading to the need to reinstall was that I kept getting the ‘Server settings unavailable’ message.

Not looking good and I suppose you can’t update your OS to Big Sur, as it works a dream for me.

Dave you could try one of these previous installs

Installing that previous version worked, thank you. A little disappointing that I’m stuck on that version now.

I’m running it on a 2012 Mac Mini (Mojave) so I can only upgrade to Catalina (and that requires a file system change).

So you store your Media on the Mac Mini? If you update it does not influence external storage

Currently, yes. The external I was using died. I will upgrade it in time.

I use WD desktop drives and have them formatted to NTFS. Very handy when friends come asking.
