Unable to use mouse scroller on Plex

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with Plex on my Windows 11 desktop. The app worked perfectly until a couple of updates ago when I noticed that my mouse scrolling wheel was no longer functional on Plex. I am now forced to use the sidebar to navigate. This issue has been ongoing for a month, and I had hoped that the latest software update would resolve it, but unfortunately, it did not. I am wondering if it’s something that I have done wrong.

Thank you

The issue is not likely to be Plex at all. I have Plex running on Windows 11 and two Synology NAS and I have no problem using the scroll wheel to navigate Plex.

This means there are several other possibilities for your issue. I would start by uninstalling your current mouse driver and then reboot Windows and let it reinstall the drivers for you.

You can also check the mouse manufacturers website for any updated drivers for your mouse. Download and install any updated drivers.

Most USB connected mice don’t have drivers, they are built into Windows, but you may see HID-compliant mouse in Device Manager, which can be uninstalled etc…

If your mouse is USB connected and not wireless, try updating your USB drivers as well.

The next possibility is your browser. Try using another browser, such as Firefox, Chrome, Edge and a slew of others.

The last possibility, is a dying mouse. Does the scroll wheel work with other applications like File Explorer for example?

If it does, then the issue is likely to be one of the above. If it doesn’t, then it may be time for a new mouse.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

It’s in the Plex for Windows app only that it doesn’t work on. I can confirm that the mouse wheel works on everything else and is a brand-new SteelSeries. Just uninstalled the Plex app and reinstalled and I got the same issue.

Is nobody else having the same issue then?

Maybe you should specifiy which Plex client type you are referring to.
There are at least 3 different ones which are currently supported on Windows.

Plex for Windows—General

Version 1.87.2.87-87488d5a

I have verified hat my scroll wheels are working with this version.

There is a trick before the horizontal scrolling action becomes available (IF your mouse provides a way to scroll horizontally and not just vertically): you need to move your mouse pointer over one of the posters in the hub you want to scroll, so that the outline of the poster is highlighted in a thin, orange line.

Hey, Been using Plex for the last ten years without a problem until 2 patches ago. Uninstalled the software twice and everything. So confused as to why it has just stopped working and is only in this app, Cant even use the scroller in the settings.

I use the Plex-for-Windows app pretty thoroughly myself, and have no problems scrolling with a mouse wheel. It even works when the Window is not in focus but the mouse is hovering. In fact, it needs the mouse to be hovering over the window in order to scroll, regardless of focus or not.

If it doesn’t work when you hover over the app with the pointer, then I bet some Windows program is sucking up your mouse “hover-over” state, preventing it from working on Plex (and possibly any other app). Can you scroll in a Windows Explorer window when it is not focused, as long as you hover the mouse over it?

Yep, it works perfectly on everything else and in games, Just only Plex

It won’t be a performance issue as it’s a high-end gaming set-up. I also plugged my old mouse in and it doesn’t work on that either. Just don’t understand how only one app doesn’t work even after being uninstalled a couple of times. Is there a way of removing reg or something incase its saving an incorrect setting still somewhere else?

Did you disable the mouse setting, which allows scrolling even if the window under the mouse pointer is not in focus? I think you need that activated. It must be somewhere among the mouse preferences in the Windows control center.

I turned on the “Scroll Inactive Windows When Hovering Over Them” setting and it works. Never been in this setting options before so no idea how it happened.

Thanks
