I have my server on a public IP. I was under the impression that to access it Ineeded to enter the pin to be able to watch my media. I have been noticing odd things come up in my watch list. I have been monitoring the activity viewer and it seems that random people are logging in and watching media.
How can I stop them, I thought a pin was needed but it seems that it’s only needed to keep track of what I have been watching!
What server version are you running and what platform is it running on? How do you have remote access configured? How many friends are you sharing with?
Version 0.9.12.19 on FreeNAS. Remote access is on but says: Not available outside your network
Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Learn more
I am sharing with 0 friends. I have a friend that logs in with my pin. I have noticed usernames such as: torrne666 and sgjoinery
That is a very old version of Plex server. Any reason why you haven’t upgraded it? Where did you download that from? There are threads about improper configuration in certain NAS setups because Plex server was installed from a non-Plex source, which allowed for total access by anyone.
Locate the preferences.xml on your system. if the preference disableRemoteSecurity is set to 1, shut down PMS, then set this to 0
Make sure your server is signed in to plex.tv (take a look at Settings - Server - General) then go to Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’. If the field ‘List of networks that are allowed without auth’ is empty, fill it with 127.0.0.1/255.255.255.255. Then click on Save Changes. To be sure, restart PMS.
