Here is an interesting update.
I just updated the server version, and all libraries are completely gone. Like, all of them. No record of any library anywhere. This will be difficult to add back. I am thinking I shouldn’t try…

do not panic.
Open Preferences.xml, make sure you see your username / account there.
On Linux, it just doesn’t disappear. It might fall out of your account (I’m working on that) but it’s not deleted.
ok not panicking per se yet haha. Even stuff like the HDHomerun and liveTV all gone. But a little panicking.
I have a way to roll back the entire hard drive using Acronis. I’m going back in time a month to a last known stable time of operation and see what’s happening.
btw where exactly is preferences.xml
Everything Plex is , by default, under "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server" (quotes for the spaces.
cd to that directorysudo cat Preferences.xmlPlexOnlineMail (should be there)"" (null string)If Preferences.xml got hammered, it may be largely blank.
Let me know?
I was able to revert back in time to about a month ago and restore the OS to that moment in time.
Plex came up fine, did have to do a server reclaim, but I have done a lot of password changes etc.
One behavior that is consistent in all this is when I go to Plex home, every user has lost access to every library and live TV. And that must be manually reconfigured for each user.
Not 100% certain how Plex/home works but think managed users are part of the server ID / Account interaction on Plex.tv
It doesn’t surprise me that if it fell out of your account and was reclaimed,
that existing managed users would need to be recreated.
Shared users (those with their own account) always do need sharing access repeated after claiming. (they did this for security when you upgrade the hardware / NAS boxes )
Got it. It’s Plex home users, not shared (I think they’re different), and they don’t have to be re-created. They all still exist. They just have zero access to anything.
that does make sense. it makes sense they’re treating them like regular users when it comes to sharing features (live TV / Libraries)
I also upgraded to 1.32.5.7516. Is this version known or assumed to be bug free?
1.32.5.7516 ???
There is the forum preview which I have for 1.32.6.7515
Is that what you mean?
It has only 1 known issue – lack of HDR tone mapping on Gemini Lake (SDR works great and looks good – go figure. something is amuck there)
Also, I may need help with this. I only have one server running named MegaPLEX. And liveTV (HDHomerun) is under some server named Plex. It should be under MegaPLEX.
But, this is also present:
Also thanks for your helps!
Deleting one of the servers got rid of MegaPLEX with the (!) yellow triangle
However, Plex (with discover, liveTVm Movies and shows, and watchlist) still remains. Wondering if that is problematic.
Do you think I am somehow getting beta releases even though I have Public selected in the settings. On the other hand, I have automatic updates configured for Ubuntu software. This was set up a long time ago though. I don’t manually install updates; Ubuntu software updates do it automatically for me.
I;m really at wits end
Just using server just now, went unclaimed. Is there ANYTHING I can do short of scrapping years of work.
The server will not stay claimed for more than 2 or 3 minutes. And every time it goes unclaimed, all Plex home users are lost. I tried password reset and renaming the server.
Here is the current behavior:
One log below is right as server went unclaimed, the other downloaded the moment after I reclaimed.
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-09-21_02-18-19.zip (3.0 MB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-09-21_02-19-24.zip (3.1 MB)
Is there ANY way possible there is something wrong extrinsic to my server, like say in my account.
I just reset the entire PC back to Aug 21, and when I did that before a couple days ago, all users came back too. Now this AM, resetting back in time, all users still gone. I am attempting to re-add them now… let’s see if it causes server to go unclaimed. Going back in time takes me to server version 1.32.5.7349.
EDIT:
For the first time at least, and evidently because I completely wiped and restored the main drive to one month ago, I was able to add all users back without the server unclaiming and all users being lost.
Damn, nope. Unclaimed again and all users lost.
The behavior is as users are added, they begin
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-09-21_08-14-34.zip (3.9 MB)
to disappear; server remaining claimed tho.
