As this intended universal UI has pushed out to each platform, people have complained. On each and every platform. Now obviously there are a lot of Roku users, so the volume of complaint may be louder than when other platforms received it. Perhaps now though the grand plan will be, at least, reviewed?
Clearly some people are happy with it, but please, please please please, consider this:
Is this Universal UI perhaps appealing only to a niche group, whilst the bulk simply downright hate it?
I expect that might have been hard to gauge in the beginning, but hopefully now Plex will start to consider other options.
I have actually been waiting for this ugly UI to reach the Roku, suspecting I couldn’t possibly be in the minority for dis-liking the apps. I’m pretty sure I’ve hit every thread for the various platform trying to explain why it simply doesn’t work for me.
My only option right now is the Android TV app on a cheap Android box. It has adapted some of the new UI garbage, but most of it is still old Plex. Familiar, easy to use and common sense simple.
While I will never understand why anyone would like this UI, I’m sure there are many who couldn’t possibly understand what there is to dis-like. Plex needs to find a compromise, one that fits both groups of users.
Remote got piffed again last night when we were using Plex and re-discovered the lack of top-level search.
If I have 10 different film libraries (or close to?), by the time I go into a single library the ‘search’ is worthless by that stage if simply doing a title find, because you can just as easily browse, but at a top level it would be very helpful. And I’m only dealing with a single server, for those dealing with multiple servers who employ more than just a single ‘movies’ or ‘tv shows’ library per server, it must drive them nuts.
Is the lack of top level search something common across all clients running this stupid ‘new’ (we’ve had it for a while, it’s old and stupid for everyone but the Roku users) interface?
Have you tried doing a search? On the LG app (which has been updated to the ‘universal’ UI) you have to go into a library to access the search, but it will locate items across multiple libraries. You can even set it to search across all media types as well. Which does beg the question as to why it’s not available on the top level page.
