My Unraid installed Docker, yes the official one, keeps telling me there is an upgrade but in the docker page no update is showing. Neither the docker website or github show an update. where is this supposed update coming from?
The docker container is its own thing which is separate from the plex version that runs inside of the container.
I am assuming on the Plex web gui it keeps telling you there is an update which is true.
You can spceify “tags” or a tag on the docker container to tell it to run a specific version of Plex
I use the linux server docker myself and it has a “version” tag which is pretty much the same thing.
so specify the tag of the version you want or the version its telling you is available and it will install and run that version which does require a restart of the container.
Thank you for the responce. I’ve been running this docker for probably around two years. Everytime I get an update on the Plex gui i can go to my docker management page and it shows an update is available. The tag currently in use is “latest”. This time there is no update available, hence my concern. I have tried changing the tag to “plexpass” and even beta but no new updates show up.
Try changing image tag from latest to public, and then restart the container.
https://github.com/plexinc/pms-docker#tags
Latest tag uses preinstalled Plex, which has not been updated yet.
Public tag installs Plex every time container is restarted and should update you to the latest version.
Counterintuitive and confusing I know. Latest tag does not actually get you the latest version…
I have the same issue, changing the tag to public makes no difference. Very annoying considering i’m having other issues with my server that I was hoping an update might fix.
I figured out the trick. You need to add the tag to the repository. Once i changed the repository field to “plexinc/pms-docker:public” and restarted my docker it updated. The same thing worked with “plexpass” tag. This method appears to create an orphaned image of the “plexinc/pms-docker:latest” image. The Key 4 field appears to be useless. I even removed it and everything loaded just fine. Wondering if this is a Plex configuration issue or an Unraid issue.
Not an unraid issue. Mostly as I’m not running unraid - just docker-compose on an ubuntu server - and yours was the only suggestion that actually worked.
