Server Version#: Can’t find, downloaded and installed today for Win 10 Pro.
Player Version#: 8.8.1.21332. Android installed today.
I am playing my first mpg file. If I play from the Plex browser player client on the same machine as the server I do not get audio description, but if I play it from the Android client I do and I cannot find how to turn it off.
I looked at the playback settings and they show as set exactly the same in both clients.
If on Android I pick the alternative audio stream in playback settings there’s no sound at all.
I cannot seem to get technical support for this paid for Android app, only FAQs or forum/community. If any one can help, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
UPDATE:
This basically comes down to playback settings/audiostream
Some mp2 (*.mpg) files (incl’ the one in q) I believe can have 2 audio tracks
This one has:
“English (MP2 Stero)”
“nar (MP2 Stero)” - this one includes audio description
The plex web client player picks 1 as default and if you switch between them you effectively turn the audio description (narration) on/off. As a check discovered that VLC does exactly this with the same file.
However both latest Plex Android app and latest Plex Fire OS App show 1, as selected by default but behave like 2. is selected and if you switch visually to 2 in the playback settings you get only silence indefinitely, until you switch back.
I can’t seem to think of any way in which this would not be considered as a bug. The app is paid for. Could a member of staff please look into this and comment in this thread.
Please playback the file on your Android app letting the app pick the audio track. Let it play for about 1 minute, then change the audio track. Let that play for 1 minute and change it back. After this final 3rd minute, stop playback and get the logs. Android, Android TV, Fire TV Logs | Plex Support
I started to get this after a recent update on my Shield. I just went into the system settings and found that the default for subtitles had been changed, so I switched it to “None” - problem solved.
“nar (MP2 Stero)” - this one includes audio description
As said 1 includes AD, 2 is silent - both on apps for android 11 and fire stick. On the plex web client player and VLC can switch between audio tracks with or with out AD.
I experimented with removing the second track (nar) using avidemux. After this vlc and ple web client player both have just one track and play fine non AD. But android 11 and firestick are both silent and in the summary liisting or playback settings edit, “Audio Stream” is simple not in the list of properties.
This is quite frustrating, clearly the mpeg has an audio track - no doubt, various media players find it and play it without a thought, but those two android cannot, it’s almost as if they are selecting audio with index 1 by default when the index starts from zero or something of that nature anyway.
I shall try to get those logs, but cannot dev testers just use the test data they would have used for the supported codecs etc. and see the behaviour.
