Android and Android TV unable to select correct Audio Stream for mp4 Movies (AAC Stereo also doesn't play)

Hi,

I am having an issue with selecting the correct sound that appears isolated to Android TV (Nvidea Shield TV) and Android apps. I do not see the issue on iOS, web or Roku players. Most of my mp4 movies have 3/4 Audio Streams - English AAC Stereo, English (AC3 5.1) and 1 or 2 Foreign Languages in AAC stereo.

The Plex players typically default to English AAC stereo correctly but on Android TV and Android Apps have no sound when played. When I change the stream to English (AC3 5.1) it then starts playing one of the foreign languages. Then if I have more than 1 foreign language and select the top one it selects the 2nd foreign language.

As I say none of this happens on Roku/iOS or Web and playing the files through VLC is fine too.

So it seems to: a) always be selecting the stream below the selected one i.e. select the first stream and it selects the 2nd b) be unable to play AC3 5.1 - i..e. no sound comes out.

This seems to have been the situation for at least several months but am not sure if it has always been like this as have only recently started adding the multiple streams.

update if I get a movie that is just in stereo and it only has 1 stream of AAC stereo that won’t play at all in Android.

See screenshot below.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you so much in advance!

In case it helps anyone also facing this issue. I found the only way to get this to work was to Cast the video from the plex server to the shield, basically casting it to itself and then it plays the audio correctly. Aside from that you can only watch the video with the correct audio on the web or Roku (or locally).
