Update broke 4K HDR Playback

So, 4K HDR content is completely broken. Someone on Reddit wrote:

“This update broke DoVi Profile 8 playback on Macbook Air M1, blue screen instead of video, h265 transcoding blackscreen too, h264 transcoding (HDR->SDR i assume) have picture.”

But for me, it’s black screen/blue screen for all 4K HDR/HDR10/DoVi content. 4K SDR works fine.

I’m getting the blue screen too.

Edit: I’m also getting error codes 3016 and 3014 in Safari on MacOS.

If anyone wants to try to rollback to the previous version of Plex to try to make the playback working again, the instructions are here: Reddit - Dive into anything

Close Plex.app if it’s running.

Download previous version:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.106.0.276-fe8d1d20/macos/Plex-1.106.0.276-fe8d1d20-universal.zip

Copy Plex.app to Applications folder. Do not open Plex.app.

Edit plex.ini file as per: Plex for Mac 1.68.2.3746 Crashes on Launch (High Sierra) - #7 by FordGuy61

Essentially edit ~/Library/Application Support/Plex/plex.ini with the following to disable auto updates:

    [debug] <-- add debug section if it does not exist.
    disableUpdater=true

Came here to report same. Just updated Plex app on MacBook Pro M4 Pro and 4K HVEC is cactus.

Blue screen and sound or black screen and sound it randomly decides either.

Version 1.107.1.293-575aed08

Also FYI the “HVEC when transcoding (experimental)” feature is not working for me, but as this is experimental this is just an FYI.

I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro 14" with M1 Pro running macOS 15.2 and Plex desktop 1.107.1.293-575aed08. I get sound and a blue screen, sometimes black screen and SRT subtitles misplaced in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Same here. MacBook Air m1. Bluescreen when playing hdr content. Works when i revert plex player to previous version.

For me happens the same. Intel mac with AMD gpu, and blue screen.

I have the same issue on m4 max macbook, blue screen when trying to play, it also breaks everything else i try to playt after but only showing part of the picture as though its zoomed in, restarting plex allows me to play those lower quality files again but breaks again if i try again.

Blue Screen too here on MacBook M2 with latest Plex for MacOS

Same issue on M3 max, updated the app and it no longer plays content aside from a blue screen.
