Update on new Downloads feature

thank you very much for the response. :+1:

this is such a pity, the sync feature is what i used the most all the time while traveling. i hope it gets fixed soon, to me it’s one of the core features of plex.

Same issue, the downloads essentially stop after trancoding one episode and then the CPU usage goes down to nothing and the next transcode slows to a crawl. It can transcode/download a single episode in a reasonable amount of time, but in effect stalls after that for any more episodes.

PMS Version 1.29.1.6316

Makes me (as a lifetime plexpass holder) want to migrate to jellyfin… Plex should have a ‘resume download’ function at least, and download functionality that works.

FYI Plex for iOS 8.11 will have an update to the embedded Nano Plex Media Server which fixes a number of download issues.

Thanks for the update; I messaged the logs to you. Hopefully the iOS update will resolve the issue.

FYI, Downloaded the iOS 8.11 Plex app update today and found the same issue occurred with the first 1 to 2 episodes of a series transcoding/downloading normally, but the following episodes transcoding/downloading stalling.

I looked at the logs and appears to be an issue caused by going into background - could you keep the app active with the Downloads screen on display - that should avoid the problem

Ahem … it should work in the background…

I don’t think I have enough … to highlight how simple it should be for Plex to fix this issue…

Please make it work in the background…

Good News, as of plex server version 1.31.0.6654, downloads are working perfectly. They use all the CPU they can to transcode now, so no stalling occurs. I tested 3 ipads and all of them downloaded several full series with no issues overnight. Thank you for resolving this.

Hmm. There was nothing specific on that version related to Downloads, but glad it’s helping you somehow.

For anyone having downloads issues on Android caused by DNS Rebinding Protection on the local network, a fix has now been released in Plex for Android version 9.16.0

See Release Notice Plex for Android - #458 by ManuelPG

  • [Mobile] Downloads: downloads would fail if network had DNS Rebinding Protection enabled.
