Updated Synology DS1019+ removed Plex Server moved files to recycle

Server Version#: Synology DS1019+
Player Version#:

Updated Synology DS1019+ to PlexMediaServer-1.18.5.2309-f5213a238-x86_64… All files sent to recycle and Plex server will not reinstall.
Plex App in Windows Browser still finds and play movies but no way to add more movies…

Which files when to the recycle bin?

Thanks for the quick reply…

Everything in the Plex Server…. The Plex Folder is gone…

The “Plex” shared folder on the Synology is “Disabled” all the folders ended up in the recycle folder with strange file names…

I can’t find all the mp4’ss. Some of the mp4’s are outside their folders but not all…

That’s because the “Plex” share is for the metadata.
I place warning files in there with each installation to not place media there.

Show me a screenshot of the status of the Plex share? I think you’ll find I’ve retaken control of it for user plex.

Thanks for your help… I have discovered that the Plex Package Update disabled the “Read/Write” function for my login. I went to Control Panel/Users/Permission and rechecked the box to allow "Read/Write to the PLEX Server Shared Drive. Once I enabled the Read/Write again everything was back as normal…
Thanks again for your prompt replies.
Bests,
Lonnie

If you have your media in the Plex share, I do urge you to make a dedicated share for it outside the Plex share.

While the steps are slightly different because a share is involved, the process below (Linux) is the same.

It will be better for you because I won’t be constantly interfering with your media (which is never my intent).

Here is the Linux procedure. For you,

a. Perform the first 3 steps (required)
b. Move the media files.
c. Add the new locations as the procedure shows.

Wow I about had a heart attack all my stuff was gone!!! After Upeate Thanks for the Tip It all came back. I don’t see how Plex can change the settings on an admin and admin user account and disable read and wright access. ??? Wow

I can and will address the “admin” concerns.

  1. When PMS installs, DSM’s Package Center application, which runs as root (above admin privilege level) is in control.
  2. Also, when the installer runs, it will create the user plex as neccessary.
  3. As of PMS 1.15.4.994, user plex was removed from the administrators group. It no longer has any special privileges whatsoever on the NAS with exception of having been granted permission to access the video transcoding hardware (on those models which support it).
