Updated to v1.40.0.7998 and now I only receive the message "Something went wrong"

I updated to version 1.40.0.7998 and now receive the message “Something went wrong” every time I try connecting to my server from any device. I have rebooted the server and still nothing. When Plex launches on the server (Windows 10) I get a popup message that says “Updating Library Please Wait…” but that message quickly disappears. However, I’ve never seen that message before this update. What should I do?

If you’re updating from a pre-1.40.x.x release there’s a database migration which needs to occur on initial startup. It can take some time, depending on the size of your library. Give it 30 minutes or so (or maybe longer) and see if it starts normally. If not, grab your server logs and post them.

I’ve waited a couple hours so far and tried to reboot the machine. In task manager Plex is using 0-.1% CPU, not sure if this matters but it doesn’t seem like it’s processing anything.

Here are my logs (newer logs in my reply below this post):

It’s been about 5 now since I tried to update. I’ve attached updated logs that I just downloaded in case something has changed since I last posted them.

Don’t know if this will help but you might try FordGuy61’s tip from this thread:

ChuckPa’s utility might just help!

Good luck,

Chris

Are my logs saying I have the same error? Please excuse my ignorance as I’m not sure how to read the logs. Would it be easier for me to load a recent database backup or is trying to repair better? I have a database backup from yesterday. I just don’t know how it will work with the new update.

I can’t read the logs either. Seems to be an art to it. I’ve seen others update to 1.40 and have a problem. Chuck’s utility will examine, fix or replace your databases with a backup. I figured if you ran it to do the ‘check’ only it would at least give you some info. If it passes you’ll have to look for something else.

Your logs seem to suggest that Plex Media Server as been restarted (in some manner) 4 times since the upgrade. This was over a period of maybe two and a half hours or so. How big is your database? The migration really can take a lot of time. It would be best to just let it run without restarting it.

Thanks for the advice I’ll let it run for awhile and see. My database file sizes are:

com.plexapp.plugins.library.db 760MB
com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db 2.3GB

Should I have any notifications in the activity monitor or anywhere else that says it’s working on converting the DB? Is there a way to monitor the progress to make sure it’s working?
