A few weeks ago I got an e-mail letting me know that there was a substantial update to the PS3 Plex app. I use the app pretty regularly and as of yet have not been prompted to update to the new version.
Is there a way that I can force the app to update and enable auto-updates going forward?

@Seeker51 the App on the PS3 automatically updates most of the time directly from plex servers during load. The easiest (and only I think) way to know what version you have is to look in the bottom right of the screen as the app loads. You should see the version number shown there.
That’s correct the app is updated on start, you can also check the current version on Settings > About
