Updating plex on Raspberry Pi without losing any configuration

Hello everybody !

I received an e-mail from Plex saying that I have to update my server or I won’t be able to access my server soon.

My plex is running on a raspberry pi 3 since 2 years.
I never have update it because it works just fine.
I know, it’s a very looooooong time lol…

How can I update it without losing my configurations ?

For my install, I followed a tutorial on pimylifeup, which actual version is different of the version I used.

I think I have to do a distro upgrade before updating plex…

Thanks for helping and sorry for my poor english, I’m french…

I don’t think you will lose your configurations by updating, but if you are worried about losing them refer to this article.
If you are worried about losing your watch history as well, refer to this article.

Hello, I have Plex on a Pi 3 and I have never had an issue updating either from the command line or via Webmin. Good luck!

Thanks for your answers

Plex updates never delete your configuration or meta data. You just might have to fix some settings (e.g. library location) after the update. Don’t panic when your server first appears empty or “new” after the update. We will guide you to restore the correct settings.

You might have to migrate from my old dev2day.de package to the “new” official package, if you still use the plexmediaserver-installer package. Please read “Legacy Support and Migration” at the end of the following post:
