Been contemplating the upgrade, hoping to use Ubuntu “do-release-upgrade”.
Hardware is Asus P9X79 PRO, E5-2690 v2, 32GB, 250GB Samsung EVO (OS), mdadm 6 disk array RAID 6, Nvidia GT-210 VGA. OS is installed on ext4, raid array is XFS file system.
Running all services bare metal except Unifi unms, which is docker. Runs several things, but SAMBA, Plex and mdadm are probably the most important to me).
I’m an old keyboard warrior (still use vi), no GUI server for me! Expecting to use the “do-release-upgrade” method. With some obvious precautions for back up, are most services expected to start up little to no issues? I realize each install is different, so I’m only hoping for a general yes it works or yes but…
I did the command line updgrade on mine a few months back - 0 issues. I don’t have a GPU though so can’t talk to those drivers. SAMBA was fine, plex was fine, Unifi was fine (though to be honest I run prod off a cloud key and the ubuntu install is just for messing around)
I’ll ponder the clone idea vs just upgrading with a back-up. I might want to swap out the 250GB with a 500GB. Ever since I enabled video preview thumbnails, OS drive is about 75% full, more capacity will help to even out the SSD’s r/w leveling.
