I want to upgrade my Plex server software, as you can see it’s been a while.
On the server settings page i clicked the upgrade and i get a message something went wrong, please install manually.

Can i just upgrade with current version 1.20.xxx or do i need to do multiple upgrades to get to the current release.
If multiple please explain which ones i need.

If there is a guide to follow please point me to it.

It shouldn’t be required to do any in-between updates but it’s also not too common to skip over 2 years of updates so it could potentially take a while when you start up the new version (be patient) or have some unexpected side-effects but I would highly recommend that you do upgrade as soon as you can as there have been multiple security vulnerabilities patched since then.

Best bet is to just make sure you you shut down Plex, then make a backup of the database (you can find this at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases - just create a zip file of this entire folder).

Once you have have your database backup just download the latest version from the website and run the installer. If it fails, then just go to Add/Remove programs and remove the current version, restart the computer and then try run the new installer again.

Thanks

It upgraded just fine manually, only took about 5 minutes.

The reason i waited so long is i was using the plugins, mainly the fox News on demand full show plugin to watch a few shows that i missed each day. But i have not needed it for months now so there was no reason to not upgrade anymore.

Thanks for your help.
