Does this mean Premium Music libraries are finally coming to FreeBSD/Unix servers? If I remember correctly the reason we got left out the last time around was because Gracenote didn’t support Unix.
That’s correct. FreeBSD will have the same premium music features as the rest of the platforms.
(There is also no separate Premium music library type anymore.)
awesome news! can’t wait to try it out
You have a Plex Pass. So you also have access to beta versions and can start right now.
No other libraries can update while Plex is refreshing music library.
Be warned if you refresh a large music library you will not get any new content added to anything else until Plex finishes doing whatever it wants to do.
Nobody forces you to refresh the whole library at once.
No of course not, we can manually refresh hundreds or thousands of individual artists 1 at a time.
What a great thing to look forward to.
What is silly is that a background task like refreshing metadata is not a separate thread from the library scan which monitors and adds content.
It is separate. ‘Scan Library Files’ doesn’t refresh anything.
If you refresh all metadata on a single library, ALL libraries are blocked from detecting content changes/adds/removes.
You cannot scan libraries while doing a refresh metadata.
So if it takes multiple days to refresh your metadata, then all libraries are blocked from other scans.
This is not new behavior, it is the same complaint that everyone has when they scanned a large premium music library for the last several years.
Significant blocking activities in a GUI shcould have a pause.
Is there a graceful way to interrupt the task with SSH, like a SIGHUP?
Can anyone comment on the Artist Radio feature with this update? The only radios available are the three found under Recommended. Whenever I look under an artist, I cannot find the radio icon anymore. Any idea why this is? Thank you in advance.
Artist Radio is still there.

Unless
- you disabled ‘Popular tracks’
- the artist in question has no ‘Similar Artists’
Thank you. I see this now. Much faster scans and better recognition of artists. I hope a Plex Mix-like feature is in the works although the Artist Radio isn’t too bad at all as a pure replacement. It’s pretty difficult to do a Plex Mix-like feature because it is very specific to that song. Great work Plex team so far.
Has anyone have issues with [Disc] search for albums? I’m finding the matching is not grabbing the metadata for albums that have Disc 1 and Disc 2 and so on.
Make sure that you did not include [disc 1] etc into the ‘Album Title’ metatag of these files.
Only use the ‘Disc Number’ metatag.
Anyone seeing these type of errors in the logs. This seems to be when I am scanning for new albums. I am running the server on a Nvidia Shield. I went back to 1.17 for the time being.
Logs: Plex Media Server Logs_2019-10-04_07-41-18.zip (1.6 MB)
Back in 1.17.0.1841 you were having problems too.
The logs don’t go back far enough to see when it was free from errors.

So I understand what you’re saying, can you provide an example? Thank you.
This is on an old existing Premium Music Library.
I have set my music library advanced settings like so:
Prefer local metadata: unchecked
Album Art: Plex Music Only
I have added new music, but it still seems to be reading the metadata from the files
e.g.
INFO (audiohelpers:315) - Reading MP4 tags from: /Music/TheArtist/TheAlbum/02. TheTrack.m4a
and for artwork:
INFO (audiohelpers:358) - Adding embedded cover art: 3feaa67d544f2b7ecd247ab9dfbcf76f
Is this the expected behaviour?
Tagging example of a 2-disc album.
Notice how the ‘Album Title’ is identical for all tracks and that it doesn’t contain any mention of Disc 1, Disc 2 etc. That’s what the separate ‘Disc #’ metatag is for.
You can also see how you can put the tracks of each disc into separate subfolders. Inspect the ‘Path’ column in the screenshot.
