Embedded metatags are still read to help with matching.
Embedded (and sidecar) album art is still imported, so it can be selected when ‘editing’ the album in Plex.

Nibbles,
I said screw it again and went to the latest beta for the nvidia shield. In this case: 1.18.0.1900. I am still getting those errors on a totally clean install. I deleted all updates for the Plex server, went into the apps and removed the cache/data. Installed the latest version and started to do a scan and get the same errors. The last time I did this, I was missing albums so this is a real issue for me.
Thank you for your clarification. I am actually using mp3tag to fix this issue and I can report that it is working flawlessly. Thank you.
Are embedded ratings now scanned and imported? This was a huge missing functionality previously (I haven’t tested).
Looks like you guys fixed my errors with the latest release of the beta (1913)… Still getting these errors…
Unknown metadata type: folder
Is this anything I should be worried about?
Is there a different between scanners?
There is Plex Music Scanner and Plex Music. Could someone explain the differences between the two?
Only use ‘Plex Music’
The other one is the old scanner for ‘last.fm’-libraries and such.
Will there be a Plex Mix feature in the works or introduced in a future beta of Plex Music?
The artist radio is excellent and can serve as a nice replacement, but I would imagine achieving a Plex Mix feature would be difficult, if not impossible using MusicBrainz metadata currrently.
not really.
musicbrainz+acousticbrainz+listenbrainz all provide sufficient metadata, audio identification and listening habits to generate all kinds of data to use to generate magic playlists and radios.
This may be the case, but we haven’t seen this used in many platforms open to the general public except Tunebat. It may be able to provide data for some songs, but never on the level that Gracenote was and still able to.
Perhaps, but they also can use last.fm data, which was pretty awesome back in the day. Today, maybe not so much. But last.fm was huge in the mid-2k’s or whenever it was they sold out.
Alright, I dipped my toes in the Plex Music thing and I’m not digging it.
How do I “undo” it?
You can’t. It’s irreversible.
Unless you have a database backup:

This is the system that all music will use in Plex as we move forward in the future. So, if you have specific, concrete, constructive feedback to share, now would be the time to do so.
Is there a way to force a search for an artist that is not coming up in the Plex Music search?
Artist Brittany Howard is in the AllMusic database, but no artist bio is coming up. Any way to enter a web page of her on AllMusic into the Plex Music search? AllMusic has the data, its just not going toward Plex Music.
Use Fix Match for the artist.
If there is no bio available, it means there is either none available on allmusic.com, or there is no link from MusicBrainz to allmusic.com yet.
Get an account on Musicbrainz.org and start filling in those links.

I am still somewhat finding my feet with the new Plex music library upgrades. One issue I am seeing is mismatches between music content added to library from Tidal, and the matching regime that the new Plex Music applies. This has happened a couple of times - there seem to be mismatches between how Tidal tags on the one hand, and how Plex Music matches on the other. Having tagged my own content I will continue to heavily rely on Local Media Assets to the a large extent.
I saw this in the release logs:
Would this show me tracks that the “Plex Music” agent couldn’t match to MusicBrainz? I can’t seem to find a track filter named something similar to “unmatched” so I thought I’d ask.
The filter is for artists or albums, not individual tracks (because matching is done for artists and albums, not for individual tracks). So, to see the filter, you need to be viewing the library (in a current web app release) “by artist” or “by album” (not “by track”):

The upgrade to server version 1.18.0.1913 on Qnap has caused quite a few problems for me, especially with compilation albums. Shortly after the software upgrade and a re-scan of the music library, the compilation albums were assigned to a single artist.
I then changed the naming of the folder with compilation albums to “various artists” (which is also the album artist in the tag.) Under ‘various artiests’ I have a sub-folder for each individual album. “Prefer local data” is on (because of a large number of vinyl ripped albums) and “Plex Music” is also selected (except “album art” which is on “both”).
However, during a re-scan, Plex takes more than 3 hours (!!!). Previously this was limited to 15 minutes. In particular, checking the metadat of compilationalbums. Plex also uses a lot of processor capacity and internal memory of my Qnap during the process.
I suspect that this has to do with the organization on my qnap (directory format and / or tags). Can someone tell me what the optimal organization is based on self-added tags? Or is there a bug in Plex in the case of compilation albums?
