So my feature request would go like this.
I share my library with my brother and his family so that he can get new content right away but then every couple of weeks I update his library providing me with an off-site backup and he gets faster access. I have noticed that rather than switch from my library to his he just uses mine which uses my bandwidth for things he has local. I know the normal attitude would be to train his family to select the best library but I also have to agree with him that he doesn’t know what is/isn’t available in his library so he just searches through the most comprehensive one.
I think this could be handled from a system standpoint in a couple ways.
- the ability to filter shared libraries by time frame might be the easiest to accomplish - for example I could share only files in my library with a user that were added in the last 2 weeks - this could be added to the restrictions section in the friends setup
- another option might be to have the ability to link a remote library to a local one and then it could offer up the local/remote copies the same way that it does with different qualities or if the libraries are truly identical just not offer up the remote version
I hope my ideas spark some interest from the community. I want to thank everyone that works on PLEX for the absolutely amazing job they do. Keep up the good work this is a great application and a great community.
