Use only ID3 data for music

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437

I have a large collection of MP3s with immaculately curated ID3 tags. How can I get Plex to use this info and to stop changing this stupidly?

In the Library’s Advanced settings, I have:

  • Prefer local metadata: ON

After I made this change I removed the library directories and re-added them so that everything would get scanned fresh. This did help: Now album names are correct (i.e. from ID3 tags).

However, artist names still appear to be mangled. How can I stop this and use only artist names from my ID3 tags?

Thank you!

I don’t think you can completely turn off Plex’s checking of online metadata, but you can follow this guide to make sure Plex is placing the highest priority on your embedded tags. If everything is working, Plex should only retrieve tags from online sources if the embedded tag is not available.

Keep in mind that Plex doesn’t support every ID3 tag. There is a feature request to improve this:

Much better! Thank you!

This is very problematic and disqualifying for PLEX. In essence, the only way to get PLEX to stop communicating with PLEX and other third-party servers when playing your own, locally stored music is to stop using PLEX, altogether.
