For Classical music why can the Classical tags not be utilized in Plex Music?

    Classical music is different than modern as the composers may have been dead for hundreds of years and their music is performed by modern day performers (Conductors, Orchestras, etc). That’s why these tags exist but not touched by Plex.

Thanks… just casted my vote. You articulated my request much better than I could have. Would also like to see better integration of Plex Music and embedded tags. A way to use both would be great.

If you configure Plex to prefer local metadata, Plex will use embedded tags where it finds them, and fill in from online sources.

I was told by Plex’s co-founder that, when the ‘prefer local metadata’ checkbox is unchecked, Plex will look online first, and fill in from embedded tags (but only for those tags that Plex uses).

I just tested this. It doesn’t work.

If it finds the tag online (and ‘prefer local…’ is unchecked), it will use the tag from online. That checkbox merely reverses the order Plex follows.

The exceptions are Genre and Album Art. There are specific settings in the Library Edit > Advanced page for these. You can choose online or embedded source (but not both) for genres, and you can set album art to local only, online only, or both. If ‘both,’ Plex will follow the order set by the ‘prefer local metadata’ setting.

Ok, that makes more sense with the behavior I’m seeing. There are a lot of artists where it is finding metadata online as the biography will be filled in but no other metadata such as Genres, Styles, Moods, Country, etc. and my Genres are still not used.

I prefer the Plex metadata overall but I wish there were an option for say Genre that was “Plex Music then Embedded Tags” so in the event the Plex metadata turns up nothing, SOMETHING could be used without having to edit each one individually in Plex. I use other software to manage my music library and tagging. I’ve found Plex a great player but that’s it.

So to clarify, In the Music Library Advanced menu if I set Genres to “Embedded Tags” rather than “Plex Music,” leave “Prefer Local Metadata” unchecked, it will use my Genres and any other metadata (styles, moods, etc) it finds online. My Genres will be used along with online metadata for the other tags?

I still wish there were a way to use BOTH embedded and Plex Music Genres like you can album artwork.
