The FAQ on DVR and Live TV states that all the SD tuners must be of the same type - “Multiple tuners can be added from within the Plex Web app, provided you are using version 2.10.5 or newer. Tuners must be of the same type; all OTA or all cable, on the same Plex Media Server”
However I am using a Extend connected to an OTA and Prime with a cablecard and both seem to be working. Is this something recent?
I believe that is referring to you can’t have two different EPG’s. I run an extend and a connect without any issues.

The extend and connect are both OTA devices. I’m running 1 OTA device and 1 Cable device.
@wadewood but you can still only have one EPG choice in the DVR. I am currently running a Prime connected to cable for local channels they broadcast as well as 2 Connects, an Extend, and a Dual for OTA. Cable company broadcasts local stations on the same channel numbers as OTA so everything works perfect. Have my DVR setup as OTA instead of cable and Prime is able to see the same stations and record.
As long as the station mappings work for both the Cable and Local OTA you should be fine. However this is not an intended use, you are just lucky. There are others that are not in the same situation. Even had a Plex Employee tell me that my setup would not work even though it was. The intent of that message: “Tuners must be of the same type; all OTA or all cable, on the same Plex Media Server” is that your tuners must be of the same type either OTA or Cable, not that they must be the same type of device. If that was required those that are using Hauppauge and HDHR or other brand tuners mixed would probably be upset.
@johnm_ColaSC - Thanks. I’m trying Plexpass out for a month while debating about a lifetime pass. I’m lucky right now with my local cable company mapping the locals but I know they could change that tommorow.
This whole thing surprised me. I was just about to buy a cable tuner with an m-card in addition to my OTA tuner. Now I need to think about that again. This issue could be resolved by having the EPG tied to the tuner configuration. Then you could have an EPG for each tuner device, no matter where the content is coming from (Cable , OTA, or somewhere else).
