2 different HDHR's, will it work?

I have both a Prime and an Extend. I have setup the Prime and all is working great.

I see that I can add the Extend to my setup.

  1. How will the OTA Extend translate the program guide from the Prime?
  2. So if channel 504 on prime is also channel 4.1 on the OTA…will it know that if the 3 prime tuners are busy and needs to record on 4.1 will it?

Yes it will. When you add the extend it will ask you to map the channels that are the same, but epg will be based solely on the primes channels

You can add multiple devices without issue. Any overlap of channels will be handled intelligently by Plex based on “conflicts”… That basically means that when Plex is attempting to tune a channel for a reason, it looks for an available tuner that can bring in that particular program. It doesn’t matter what box it’s on.

I have an HDHR Extend and a Connect Quattro. Six tuners, all able to access the exact same antenna for inputs. Whatever box has an available tuner that can receive what I want to watch/record will be the one that Plex uses.

What I -DON’T- know is if there’s a way to give preference to a particular DVR device. For example, the Extend is capable of hardware transcoding to reduce file size. It would be great to ensure that the Extend gets used in its entirety before using any of the tuners in the Connect.

Mixing tuner types, Prime (Cable) and Extend (OTA) is not really supported. I have a Prime, Extend, 2 Connects, and a Dual all available on my network. The Prime only is setup for the same local channels that are rebroadcast by the cable company. In my situation the channel numbers match up, 10.1 OTA is 10.1 on Cable.

@ember1205 there is a thread that discusses tuner priority. You can rearrange the tuners but it requires manually editing the database table the tuners are stored in to alter the ID numbers associated with each tuner.
