I am sharing a Plex server with a coworker that works great on my MacBook, Roku and iPhone, but I was hoping to let my parents access my account sometimes on their Roku stick. (They live in a different city than I do.)
I gave them my exact credentials, and they got a message saying “User cannot be authenticated”. This happened a few weeks ago; they had spelled my email
address wrong at first so we thought maybes it was a password lockdown or something. We tried again tonight, and got the same message: “User cannot be authenticated”. I know the credentials are correct because I had used them to log in on my own Roku 15 minutes earlier. Their Roku stick is listed as an approved device on my account. Is there any way to correct this?
I was able to confirm that there are failed login attempts on your account. Since these failures show up that means they have your email correct, but somehow they have the password wrong.
Check if they are using the “Continue with Roku” or “Sign in” option. If it’s the former, that requires your Roku account info, not your Plex account info. If they choose “Sign in” the default is to use the link method. They should get a link code. You can then link the device yourself at https://www.plex.tv/link/ without them needing to use your email/password.
Thank you so much!! I changed the password on my desktop and they were able to log in on their Roku stick once I gave them the new credentials, that’s all it took!
