“User could not be authenticated. This IP appears to be having trouble signing in to an account”

Just getting started with Plex. I have a paid Plex account. I’ve installed Plex Media Server (version 1.1.3.2700) on my Mac Mini running El Capitan. I can log-in to the Plex website just fine with my account. When I attempt to log-in on the Plex Media Server, I continually get an error, “User could not be authenticated. This IP appears to be having trouble signing in to an account”.

I haven’t once been able to claim this server by logging in. Here are my logs: http://pastebin.com/J2URw3vV

Any ideas? Really trying to get this to work.

If you are getting the same error on login to plex.tv, it means that there have been too many logins with wrong password resulting in the IP Address being blocked temporarily. The lock will get removed automatically after a while.
You need to find the devices / computers that are signing in with an incorrect password.

sa2000 - Thanks for responding! It is not the login to plex.tv that is the problem. It is the login to the either
127.0.0.1 or Localhost:32400 addresses.
If i go to, app.plex.tv i can get in and see my PMS is running fine and then access it through my Roku. However if I try and access my PMS through the localhost address then I get an error that I couldn’t be authenticated. I appreciate any help on this, it’s driving me batty!

Are you saying that on that computer where you get the error, if you load a browser and go to https://plex.tv and then sign in to njmach007, it would not give you the same error?

Both should be the same. On the http://localhost:32400/web it is now necessary for the browser to authenticate with plex.tv

What time did you start to get this error and what time is it now

The same thing happens to me. Also a paying customer. I’m able to log into Plex on my TV and Smartphone but trying to reach settings via web gives me “User could not be authenticated. This IP appears to be having trouble signing in to an account (detected repeated failures)”.

I’ve reset the password and tried again, I’ve uninstalled the server and installed it again, I turned off ad blockers and other stuff that can interfere etc. I’ve also waited more then a day to do login attempts again.

Are you able to help out? User name is cofra.

@sa2000 I think I have corrected it. I cleared my browser cache and made sure my password manager was updated with the correct password and username. @cofra I suggest you check the same if you are using lastpass or 1password it might be inserting the wrong information to login locally.

This thread is a bit old but I seem to running into the situation mentioned. I just signed up for Plex and I got my PMS set up, all the settings look correct but when i try to log into plex.tv to watch some of my content remotely i am getting a “The username or password is incorrect. Repeated attempts may temporarily disable sign in”. Any help?
