My wife and I have two different music libraries although there are many similarities we also have many different tastes and don’t want to have a single music library
My problem is that the same track in two different libraries gets the same user Rating and one person changing a track to 5 stars in their library is replicated in the other messing up smart playlists etc.
Creating a copy and changing the physical music file to two different locations doesn’t fix this.
By setting up a test library it seems to be the fact that they have been matched to the same ‘guid’ by the Plex Music scanner and agent. (they do have different ‘ratingKey’ according to the xml but that doesn’t seem to make a difference). Changing to the Personal Media Personal Media Artists Agent so they are given a different guid does keep the ratings separate and my files are mostly tagged OK but this will loose out on the other metadata gathered by the Plex Music agent which I quite like.
We could use (non smart) collections and playlists to do our ratings instead of using the star system but that would be a shame as we have years of habit in rating our music with stars and it is much quicker.
I don’t suppose there is a way to keep separate star rating per library, I know it might be a feature to many people, and it seems to be something built into the Plex database structure so I don’t see a way around it?
