Username changed? Is my account compromised?

Server Version#: latest on Ubuntu LTS
Player Version#: latest

So today I logged in to my Plex media server and I realized that at the main user selection screen, under my icon, my username had changed. I clearly remember my email address used to show here, but now the email is gone, and a weird username exists which I don’t remember ever using. I have always logged in to Plex with my email/password, and so I don’t exactly remember what the username was. But I have checked my email and all my old Plex emails show account as email, and only the most recent emails show account as this weird username.

I have already changed the password and activated 2FA.

Have my account been compromised?
I am not writing my username in a public forum. Any admins who can help I will DM you.

Thanks.

Oh, sorry I was out of loop. Thank you very much.

I just posted a message about this a few minutes ago had I seen this one first i would have replied here instead. The BIG problem with you doing that without any notification to the Plex Server Admin/Owner is I had all of my users email addresses IN PLEX but your sudden change removed them all not to mention the fact I don’t have a clue who any of my users are now since you put some random username as their name. I also do not have any way to contact them since their email addresses have been removed. So my only option at this point is to disable all my friends and family accounts and just wait for them to contact me to let me know Plex stopped working for them. Then I have to explain why and either have them change their usernames or I find out who the person is by the username Plex decided to change it to.

…The BIG problem with you doing that without any notification to the Plex Server Admin/Owner is …

As far as I’m concerned, I did receive the notification from Plex by email on March 22, entitled “We selected a Plex username for you!”
Maybe it ended up in your SPAM ?

Edit:
Sorry, I read too quickly your answer …I understand it better now :+1:

He means the SERVER OWNER didn’t get a notification this was happening and now, since all his users are added as friends, he can no longer identify who they are because Plex obfuscated the names so much they’re illegible and unidentifyable.

What was an e-mail address for most peoples friends list is now cryptic heiroglyphics and we need ancient technology to decipher the meanings.

While I agree with what Plex has done they certainly could have implemented the change in a more structured way instead of hastly doing something of the last minute so as it seems. I mean afterall the threat was always there and the privacy issues were apparent for a long long time so whats a few more days huh?

Are we still talking about Plex and “sharing with family and close friends”?
Don’t get me wrong… I appreciate that it can be annoying if a user changes their account name (or gets it changed by Plex) and you can no longer identify them. Then again… if one of the friends I share my server with feels the need to play hide and seek and potentially starts messing with my server, they’re off that server – no questions asked.

I understand on the other hand that this can be a much more annoying problem if we start talking about sharing outside that initial group. Not claiming anybody in this thread does that… just trying to get some perspective.

Just keep in mind that not everybody who’s posting links to announcements from Plex is actually Plex. No need to finger-point other users (just in case your post could be misread as such).

Just checked my spam mails - indeed the Plex username change email somehow ended in the spam folder, even though ALL other Plex emails like Plexcerpts, New Login are always received in the inbox.
