Using a direct coax connection instead of an antenna for live TV

Hi,

I had a general question about setting up Live TV/DVR. I’m using the NVIDIA Shield as my Plex Server. I bought an antenna to see what channels I could get before purchasing a tuner, but it seems like the reception in my area is quite poor, so I don’t think that will be a viable option for me. However, I remembered that I am able to get basic channels directly through my cable/coaxial connection.

My question is, could I use a coaxial splitter and one run one cable to my modem/router and the other to a tuner? In other words, do I need an antenna to connect to a tuner or can I just use the direct coaxial connection from my wall? Is the signal encrypted even though it’s just basic channels? Or is it only encrypted if the signal requires the use of a cable card? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yup can use coax from your cable company to the tuner as long as the tuner is compatible.
