Using computer as wireless hardrive using Plex

I just got a new computer but it only has 128GB. My TV show folders are 150GB+ so I have a little problem… But I thought maybe I could use my old computer (which has 750GB) as a hard drive. Considering the only thing taking up space is videos I can use Plex for that. Is this a possibility? Do you know any easier ways of doing this?

If there were a way to access my old computer as an actual external hard drive on my new computer (preferably wirelessly) that would be even better

Every computer Operating System nowadays has a function to ‘share’ drives or folders to other users over the local network. Refer to the documentation of your particular OS.

It’s worth noting that since your PMS will be leaning on the wireless to first pull the files off the other computer, as well as simultaneously stream to the Plex client, wireless congestion will likely be a very real problem

Excellent point. The Plex server and any external storage should be wired up.

Your best option is to buy an external USB drive 2TB for about $100 USD, the wireless option can be done but you would need a really good AC Wireless router. Example: Asus RT-AC5300, RT- AC3200 Tri Band Gigabit Router. Then set up correctly and it’s connected by wire / cat6 to your server only. Costing about $320-$400 USD

Conclusion: Buy a USB drive or an enclosure $30 and use your HDD out of second computer.
