Can you use the Plex app without a Plex account? I don’t have a Plex account and prefer to keep my server anonymous, is there a way I can still use the Xbox app?
How did you make this thread without a plex account?
There currently is not a way to do this. Plex has not stated any intention of doing so, which doesn’t mean they won’t I suppose either.
@johnson.patrickw The Xbox one app is so longer under pled pass only and to defect this the subforum has been moved to allow everyone access.
To clarify more on what adamskoog said:
Currently the app is not allowed to browse your local network looking for the Plex Media Server. This is a restriction from Microsoft not a design choice. So currently in order for the Xbox to find your server your server must be registered to your Plex Account where it publishes its internal IP address for Plex Clients to see. The Xbox Will then connect to Plex.tv pull the server’s IP address and everything from there is handled on the local LAN (Except the things that directly pull videos from external sources ie remote shares, channels, vevo music videos, etc).
So while the IP address of your server will be known to the Plex.tv server nothing else will as everything else will be ran from your local server.
