Using Plex on phone vs local file

First of all, I love Plex, I use it in every device I have without a problem. However, on my android phone, I play movies locally because:

  • I can rip movies down to 200-500 megs each because they don’t have to be “great” quality to play on a small screen, so handbrake doesn’t take long

  • Storage for the phone is very cheap nowadays

  • When using plex, It takes a while (even when using 5G / 2mbs Plex setting) for the to file to startup and play

Any thoughts ? I know I can download the file beforehand when at home on my wi-fi, but it still seems like a hassle.

Could be a number of things. The most simple cause could be your server allowing its disks to sleep… in particular lower power HDDs are known to take their sweet time to spin up.

Do you experience the same issue with other clients when connecting to your server after it fell asleep?

It could be disk spinning up, other clients have complained as well.
